The Agile Project Management™ scheme aims to address the needs of those working in a project-focused environment who want to be agile.
Based on the proven fundamentals within DSDM Atern, the new certification provides the ability to deliver Agile Project Management™ Projects in organisations requiring standards, rigour and visibility around Project Management, while at the same time enabling the fast pace, change and empowerment provided by Agile Project Management™.
The course will:
- Explain how to lay the foundations for successful Agile Project Management™ projects
- Explain how an Agile Project Management™ project is managed
- Clarify the different management styles needed for successful Agile Project Management™ projects (compared to “traditional” projects)
- Provide integration with PRINCE2®.

There are no pre-requisites for the foundation examination. Candidates must achieve a pass at foundation level before completing the practitioner examination.
Agile Project Management™ has one main manual supporting the qualification scheme, published by The DSDM Consortium, called “Agile Project Management™ Handbook”. Please visit APMG Business Books at: www.apmg-businessbooks.com
FGI include this handbook as part of the course fee unless requested otherwise.
Both foundation and practitioner exams are currently available in English only. Translations will be progressed subject to market demand.

FGI provide the combined combined foundation and practitioner course, delivered over 4 days.
Summaries of the structure of the Agile Project Management™ foundation and practitioner examinations are below:
- Multiple choice examination
- 60 questions
- 1 hour duration
- Closed book
- Takes place on the afternoon of day 3 of the course
- Objective-testing examination
- 4 questions with 60 marks available
- 2 hours duration
- Open-book (restricted to official handbook only)
- Takes place omn the afternoon of day 4 of the course
The qualifications are not valid for a defined period and will not expire.
Agile Project Management™ foundation examinations can be marked on location with provisional results provided immediately after marking. Practitioner answer sheets are marked at APMG-International offices and results released soon after.
A foundation certificate will be dispatched to you approximately 2 weeks after we have received your exam paper back into our offices, if you only took the foundation exam.
If you sat a practitioner or both exams, a practitioner certificate will be dispatched 2 weeks after the practitioner results have been released.
Pass marks for the Agile Project Management™ examinations are as follows:
Foundation: You will need to score 30/60 to pass the foundation exam.
Practitioner: You will need to score 30/60 to pass the practitioner exam.
Candidates who have passed the Agile Project Management™ practitioner examination can put “Agile Project Management™ Practitioner” on their business cards.
Only organisations licensed to do so are allowed to use the Agile Project Management™ logo. Such organisations include Agile Project Management™ ATOs (Accredited Training Organisations) and registered partners accredited by APMG-International. The Agile Project Management™ logo is a registered trademark of Cabinet Office and must not be used without their permission or appropriate license.
Agile Project Management™ is based on DSDM Atern, which has always been the only Agile Project Management™ method to fully-address the concept of an Agile Project Management™ project, and provides detailed guidance on how to manage and deliver Agile Project Management™ projects.
Agile Project Management™ focuses on the elements of Atern that are specific to the Agile Project Management™; it is important to note that Atern also provides detailed guidance on delivery techniques and solution development, which are outside of the Agile Project Management™ Handbook.
Although Agile Project Management™ can be viewed as a subset of DSDM Atern, there are some extra features in Agile Project Management™ that are not currently available in Atern. These include ‘Top Tips’ for Agile Project Management™ Managers at the conclusion of most chapters. These ‘Top Tips’ have been collected from the in-depth practical experience of professional individuals who have managed and delivered Agile Project Management™ projects for many years. These are practitioners who work across a wide range of backgrounds, from small, simple projects to large, complex projects, including regulated environments where they need to work in conjunction with other methods and approaches such as PRINCE2®, ITIL®, CMMI, ISO, etc. Access to this experience through these ‘Top Tips’ has proved to be invaluable and will help the Agile Project Management™ to avoid pitfalls and prepare for success.
